Microsoft Excel is the leading spreadsheet program. Spreadsheets allow you to process numbers and text, set formulas and functions for automatic execution, forecast a budget based on a scenario, present data in the form of diagrams, publish worksheets on the Internet, etc. In this regard, the computer is one of the means of applying the most important of the principles of learning — visibility. The application of this program forms and develops imaginative, visual, spatial thinking, which facilitates the task of perception, understanding, comprehension and assimilation of educational material.
In my work, I used the Microsoft Excel program to create graphs of the function and showed their application to solving problems. There is not enough scientific literature on the topic “Plotting functions in Microsoft Excel”. This is how M. Dodge and K. Stinson consider this topic in the book “Effective work with Microsoft Excel”. No less interesting is told in the book by L.V. Rudikova “Microsoft Excel for a student”. When working on the abstract, I also used the book by R.B. Reichmist “Graphs of functions”.
Excel charts provide a graphical representation of various numerical data.
To build charts, you should first prepare the range of necessary data, and then use the Insert/Chart command or the corresponding “Chart Wizard” button on the Standard toolbar.
In Excel, you can build two types of diagrams: embedded and diagrams on separate sheets. Embedded charts are created on a worksheet next to tables, data, and text and are used when creating reports. Diagrams on a separate sheet are convenient for preparing slides or for printing.
Excel offers various types of charts and provides a wide range of possibilities for changing them (chart type, labels, legends, etc.) and for formatting all chart objects. Formatting is achieved using the appropriate commands of the Chart toolbar or using the context menu of the corresponding chart object (“just right-click on the desired object and select the Format command from the context menu”).
